John Kirby claims Hamas is obstructing ceasefire negotiations, contradicting Biden’s recent statements

Washington DC (Quds News Network)- US National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby placed the blame on Hamas today, claiming that it is complicating ceasefire negotiations and that the movement has altered the terms of a proposed prisoner exchange. However, Kirby offered no specific details on the changes allegedly made by Hamas, leaving many to question his claims.
Kirby’s remarks came as Israeli media reports have repeatedly revealed that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been deliberately obstructing ceasefire efforts.
Despite Kirby’s implication that Hamas is responsible for the setbacks, multiple Israeli news outlets have disclosed that Netanyahu is refusing to finalize any deal that could lead to a ceasefire, instead Israeli Ynet revealed that Netanyahu faked documents to claim that Hamas was obstructing a deal. Netanyahu’s hardline stance includes his consistent demands for a “total victory” over Hamas and the maintenance of military control in parts of Gaza, a position that has reportedly hindered progress in recent negotiations.
President Joe Biden’s administration has faced growing criticism over its handling of the situation. Last week, Biden himself expressed frustration with Netanyahu’s unwillingness to finalize a ceasefire, marking a rare instance of public criticism from the US president towards the Israeli prime minister.
While Netanyahu continues to push for prolonged military action, the humanitarian toll in Gaza mounts. Over 40,700 Palestinians have been killed since the genocide began in October, and Israel’s blockade and airstrikes show no sign of abating. Although the US has pushed for ceasefire talks, it has simultaneously vetoed three United Nations Security Council proposals calling for an immediate ceasefire, raising questions about Washington’s true intentions.
Palestinian groups have expressed outrage at the lack of transparency in the negotiations and Kirby’s failure to provide any substantial information about Hamas’ new terms. Senior Hamas officials maintain that any agreement must ensure a permanent end to the war and a complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, a condition Netanyahu refuses to meet. Indirect talks, which have been mediated by Egypt and Qatar, remain deadlocked.
