Jewish Chronicle removes articles containing fabricated quotes following investigation

London (Quds News Network)- The Jewish Chronicle (JC), the UK’s oldest Jewish news outlet, has removed a series of articles following reports that they contained fabricated quotes from Israeli officials as part of a pro-Netanyahu campaign, sparking an investigation by the Israeli military. The articles in question were written by journalist Elon Perry.
One of Perry’s articles claimed that a document had been discovered in Gaza, allegedly revealing Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar’s plans to flee with Israeli prisoners, using the Philadelphi Corridor to reach Iran. However, the Israeli army stated it had no knowledge of such a document, and several Israeli media outlets began questioning Perry’s credibility and professional history.
+972 Magazine, an Israeli publication, raised doubts about Perry’s claim of having served as a commando in Operation Entebbe and his assertion that he had been a professor at Tel Aviv University for 15 years, citing a lack of records confirming these statements.
Initially, the JC chose not to remove the disputed articles. However, on Saturday, the outlet reversed its decision, stating, “While we understand he did serve in the Israel Defense Force, we were not satisfied with some of his claims.” The publication also announced that it had cut ties with Perry and removed his stories from its website.
This development comes as the Israeli military investigates reports of forged documents allegedly leaked from Gaza to foreign media, aimed at influencing public opinion during prisoner exchange negotiations. One such document, supposedly found on Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar’s computer, outlined strategies to pressure Israel. These contents closely resembled statements made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in recent press briefings.
