Jenin Municipality: Israel Has Turned Jenin Refugee Camp into an Unlivable Zone

Occupied West Bank (Quds News Network)- The Jenin municipality declared that the Jenin Refugee Camp is now completely uninhabitable due to continuous Israeli military attacks. The assault has lasted for 68 days. Israeli forces have caused massive destruction, demolished and burnt demolitions houses, and turned other houses to military sites.

The Israeli army has imposed a strict blockade on Jenin, home to 360,000 people. The municipality reported that the military has destroyed around 600 homes and wiped out the camp’s infrastructure. The camp’s media committee said 3,250 houses are now unfit for living.

Israeli forces brought reinforcements, including bulldozers, to destroy roads inside the camp. Soldiers continue to fire live rounds in surrounding areas while drone activity intensifies overhead. The number of displaced residents has risen to 21,000, with many seeking refuge in Jenin city and nearby villages.

Israeli Walla reported that the army is increasing “engineering operations” in northern West Bank camps. The military’s central command leader stated that the Israeli government aims to dismantle these refugee camps and turn them into neighborhoods under Jenin and Tulkarm’s administration.

Israel’s assault on Jenin and Tulkarm, which began on January 21, has included widespread arrests and home raids. Palestinian officials warn that these actions are part of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan to annex the West Bank and declare full Israeli control, effectively ending the two-state solution.

In Beit Ummar, north of Hebron, four Palestinians were injured during an Israeli raid. The Palestinian Red Crescent reported treating a 19-year-old young man shot in the leg, an 18-year-old girl suffering from tear gas inhalation, a 25-year-old man wounded by live fire, and a 59-year-old woman shot in the leg. All were taken to medical facilities.

Israeli troops also raided Al-Bireh near Ramallah, focusing on Jerusalem Street and Am’ari Refugee Camp. The soldiers attacked shop owners and fired gunshots before withdrawing.

Since Israel’s genocide in Gaza began, the military and settlers have intensified attacks across the West Bank. Over 938 Palestinians have been killed, nearly 7,000 injured, and 15,700 arrested, according to Palestinian officials.
