Jamie Lee Curtis Compares LA Wildfires to War-Torn Gaza

Gaza (Quds News Network)-Acclaimed American actress Jamie Lee Curtis compared the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles to war-torn regions, including Gaza, which has been under Israeli bombardment for over 14 months.

When asked about her thoughts on the fires during a recent Q&A session for her upcoming film, The Last Showgirl, Curtis said, “The entire Pacific Palisades looks like, you know, unfortunately Gaza or one of these war-torn countries where awful things have happened.”

The comment instantly went viral with many coming out in praise, others criticized her.

Some users considered the comment tone-deaf for equating man-made wars with natural disasters.

They have also criticized her for being a staunch supporter of Israel.

At the outset of the war, Curtis shared a photo of Palestinian children fleeing Israel’s bombs but mistakenly cast them as Israeli children subjected to Palestinian “terror from the skies”. Although she proceeded to clarify the error, she did not address or express support for Palestinian children.

She was also among over 700 celebrities who signed an open letter condemning Hamas and expressing solidarity with Israel.

Many online users have highlighted the similarities between Angelenos’ experience of destruction and displacement and that of Palestinians suffering from Israel’s ongoing bombardment in Gaza with the support of the US.

Others have also highlighted LA county’s budget cut of nearly $18m to the fire department and the United States’ increase in financial support for Israel.

Other social media users have pointed out the double standard of empathetic reactions to Americans affected by the wildfires compared to the reactions of Israel’s destruction of Gaza.
