Israel’s requests series is on… Netanyahu to ask Biden for impunity from war crimes

Occupied Palestine (QNN)- The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, will ask the newly inaugurated President of the United States, Joe Biden, for impunity from war crimes committed against the Palestinian people and brought into the International Criminal Court (ICC), reported Israel Hayom on Sunday.
The Israeli newspaper reported that Israel’s first request from the new administration will be “to coordinate the selection of the ICC’s next chief prosecutor in the coming weeks.”
The Israeli request comes as part of the occupation state’s efforts to go unpunished over war crimes committed by senior Israeli, including Netanyahu himself, against the Palestinian people, especially during wars on Gaza.
Chief Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda, who has served in the position for the last nine years, is set to step down in the coming weeks.
Bensouda had said war crimes had been or were being committed in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, Jerusalem, and Gaza Strip, and asked for a ruling on the court’s territorial jurisdiction.
Former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had threatened the International Criminal Court against asserting jurisdiction over the occupation state, claiming the United States will “exact consequences” for any “illegitimate” investigations.
Pompeo said the US does not “believe the Palestinians qualify as a sovereign state”. His statement came after the ICC prosecutor stressed that Palestine is a state with the ability to submit complaints that could trigger probes into war crimes committed by the occupation state.
