Israel’s Itamar Ben-Gvir Calls Global Sumud Flotilla Activists “Terrorists”
Occupied Palestine (QNN)- Israel’s far-right National Security Minister called the activists aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla “terrorists” after Israeli forces intercepted their boats and abducted them while attempting to break Israel’s illegal blockade. As they sat on the ground at what appears to be Ashdod port in Israel, Ben-Gvir called them "terrorists" on Thursday. He claimed the activists’ ships were “found completely empty”, accusing them of not carrying humanitarian aid. “They didn’t really come… to help. They came for Gaza, for the terrorists. These are terrorists,” he said. Some of the flotilla's activists can be heard chanting "Free Palestine" as they sit together on the ground. The International Committee to Break the Siege on Gaza on Friday denounced Ben-Gvir’s remarks. In a statement, the committee said it was “not surprising for the criminals of genocide to send out their minister, swaggering before activists from 50 countries around the world, surrounded by his guards.” “What is surprising,” the committee added, “is that despite holding control of the image at that moment, they could not record more than 25 seconds without hearing the chant ‘Freedom for Palestine’ from the participants.” The group said the activists’ chants “shattered the ears” of Ben-Gvir and praised the detainees for showing the same defiance and resilience they demonstrated throughout their month-long voyage toward Gaza. “Freedom for Palestine. Stop the genocide. Break the siege,” the committee said. Early in the voyage, Ben-Gvir also called the activists on board “terrorists” and said they should be treated as such. More recently, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the effort to deliver aid as a “jihadist initiative”. Israeli officials confirmed on Thursday that they had abducted 400 pro-Palestinian activists who were on board 41 ships in the flotilla, which was carrying aid to Gaza and attemtping to break the illegal siege, after intercepting and boarded the boats since Wednesday. On Friday morning, Israeli forces seized the only remaining aid vessel heading to besieged Gaza, intercepting it off the coast.
