Israeli tank shell hits Gaza hospital, killing 12-year-old girl recovering from previous strike

Ramallah (QNN) – A 12-year-old Palestinian girl, Dunia Abu Mohsen, recovering in Naser Hospital in the southern Gaza Strip, was killed by an Israeli tank-fired shell targeting the hospital last Sunday, according to a report by Defense for Children International-Palestine (DCIP).
Dunia had lost her leg in an Israeli airstrike on October 27, which claimed the lives of her parents and two siblings. The recent tank shell, which did not explode, injured several other Palestinians in the hospital.
In a video recorded on November 25 during the seven-day humanitarian truce, Dunia expressed her desire to go abroad for the installation of a prosthetic leg, aspiring to become a doctor to treat other children. She pleaded for an end to the ongoing conflict.
The DCIP report highlighted the dire situation in Gaza, noting that more than 7,870 Palestinian children have been killed by Israeli occupation forces since October 7. Many others are presumed dead or missing under the rubble of destroyed buildings. The death toll is escalating due to the severe restrictions imposed by Israeli authorities, including limited access to food, clean water, fuel, electricity, and essential medicines.
Israeli occupation forces have systematically targeted Gaza’s health system since launching a military offensive on October 7. Hospitals have been deprived of fuel, electricity, and medicines, with several being targeted by airstrikes, shelling, live ammunition, and other attacks on patients and healthcare workers. Currently, only eight out of 36 hospitals in Gaza are operational, providing extremely limited services, according to UN OCHA.
The besiegement of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza for four days, ending on December 16, resulted in the detention of around 90 Palestinians by Israeli forces and the destruction of parts of the hospital. Additionally, Israeli military bulldozers reportedly crushed about 20 displaced Palestinians seeking shelter in tents in the hospital courtyard.
