Israeli minister says death of 2 million Gazans from hunger is ‘justified and moral’

Occupied Palestine (Quds News Network)- Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said that allowing two million Palestinians in Gaza to die of hunger might be “justified and moral.” However, he added that the current global reality prevents Israel from taking such drastic measures.

Smotrich’s comments, which he made during a conference hosted by Israel Hayom, come amidst a severe blockade on Gaza, imposed by Israel, resulting in dozens of deaths from hunger. Despite these harsh conditions, Smotrich insists that stricter conditions should be imposed on the starving people of Gaza.

The Israeli minister also expressed strong opposition to any prisoner swap deals with the resistance, arguing that they would compromise Israel’s security. He reiterated his belief that Palestinian abductees, if released, would retaliate.

Smotrich is among several officials who have made genocidal statements against the Palestinian people in Gaza since October 7. Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant referred to Palestinians as “human animals” while announcing a “complete siege” on Gaza, stating, “There will be no electricity, no food, no fuel, everything is closed.”

Other Israeli ministers and officials have made similarly extreme statements, including advocating for the use of nuclear weapons on Gaza and suggesting the enclave be turned into a “slaughterhouse” or erased from existence.

South Africa has cited these statements as evidence of genocidal intent in its case at the International Court of Justice, which accuses Israel of genocide in Gaza. Israel has denied these accusations.

Israel’s ongoing military offensive in Gaza has led to over 39,600 Palestinian deaths, predominantly among women and children, and left vast parts of the territory in ruins. The International Court of Justice has accused Israel of genocide, ordering an immediate halt to its military operations. Despite this, Israel continues its aggressive stance, facing widespread condemnation for its actions and the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.
