Israeli jailer killed in retaliation for torture against detainees

Occupied Palestine (Quds News Network)- The Israeli army detained Ibrahim Mansour, a former detainee, from the village of Bidu in occupied Jerusalem for killing an Israeli jailer, who repeatedly practised torture against Palestinian detainees.

The Israeli jail officer, Yohay Avni, was reportedly killed inside his house in an illegal settlement in occupied Jerusalem. The house was set on fire after killing Avni.

The incident took place nearly two weeks ago, but Israeli authorities only today allowed Israeli media to publish about it.

This operation marks the first of its kind due to its nature as an assassination and the targeting of a prison officer killed at his home. It coincides with reports of threats against the director of Negev Prison and other IPS officers, following their repeated torture practices on Palestinian prisoners.

This comes amidst the horrific crimes committed by the IPS against Palestinian prisoners, which has escalated to unprecedented levels since October 7, particularly targeting detainees from Gaza.

Systematic torture has led to the deaths of several prisoners in Israeli jails. The recent months have seen the highest number of fatalities within the prisoner community.

The Israeli occupation authorities enforce a starvation policy, depriving prisoners of adequate and healthy meals, instead providing them with spoiled and poor-quality food. Physical and psychological torture is systematically applied from the moment of arrest and during interrogation, including beatings, insults, and humiliating strip searches.

Cells are overcrowded, with 12-16 detainees crammed into spaces designed for six. Prisoners are denied basic water and hygiene, leading to contagious and painful skin diseases, while being deprived of their right to medical treatment.

Earlier, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club urged the United Nations to conduct an impartial international investigation into the ongoing crimes against detainees and prisoners, as well as field executions. They called on the international human rights system to fulfill its responsibilities in the face of these rampant crimes.

The Club condemned the field execution by Israeli forces of four Gaza prisoners, which constitutes a new war crime. The four victims were aid workers in Gaza, targeted at the Kerem Shalom crossing.
