Israeli forces raze, close roads in Masafer Yatta

Hebron (QNN)- Israeli occupation forces today morning destroyed and closed all roads leading to the Masafer Yatta community, south of Hebron in the southern occupied West Bank.

Rateb al-Jabour, from the national and popular committee in the south of Hebron, said that the Israeli forces escorted bulldozers to the area, where the machineries destroyed all roads used to connect Khallet Ad-Dabi‘ and Shi‘b al-Butum communities with other hamlets of the Yatta.

The forces also closed all roads leading to the community.

On June 9, the forces also destroyed and closed a road established in 2019 and used to connect the Yatta and Khillet al-Dabe‘ towns to Masafer Yatta, in an attempt intended to further fragment the Palestinian communities making up the area as a prelude to seize their lands in favour of colonial settlement expansion.

Masafer Yatta, a collection of almost 19 hamlets that rely heavily on animal husbandry as the main source of livelihood. It is located in Area C of the West Bank, under full Israeli administrative and military control.

Home demolitions, confiscation of the most basic infrastructure and military training exercises are part of everyday reality in the area, forcing many to live in natural caves, as they vow to stay in Masafer Yatta no matter what the obstacles.

In many Palestinian communities located in Area C of the West Bank under full Israeli military control, Israeli-designated “firing zones” or “closed military zones” are forbidden for Palestinians to live on without permission from the Israeli occupation authorities, which is rarely granted.
