Israeli forces disguised as UNRWA workers to carry out military attack in Gaza, report states
Gaza (Quds News Network)- Israeli forces dressed up as UNRWA workers and displaced civilians to gather information during a military attack inside Gaza, reported Israeli media.
According to a report by the Jewish Chronicle, and widely shared by Israeli media outlets, during an alleged operation by the Israeli military to target the head of Hamas’ military wing, Mohammed Deif, the Israeli Duvdevan unit, specializing in operations while disguised as Palestinians, dressed up as UNRWA workers and displaced civilians to gather information in Al-Mawasi area, which was previously announced by the Israeli military as a non-combat safe area and pushed thousands of displaced families to it.
Last month, Israeli F-16 fighter jets launched a series of intense airstrikes, creating a fire belt with bombs weighing over 500 kilograms, targeting the tents of displaced families in Al-Mawasi west of Khan Younis.
The Israeli army claimed that its attack targeted Muhammad Deif, the overall commander of the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, alongside other Hamas leaders, a claim that was repeatedly used by the Israeli military to justify massacres against civilians.
In January this year, Israel accused employees of the UN’s Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in Gaza of having participated in Hamas’s 7 October military operation, further attempting to defame and discredit the vital aid relief agency, causing significant damage to the agency’s funding and reputation, resulting in numerous Western states withdrawing support and funds from the UN relief organization.
According to UN experts, “Acquiring civilian disguise to conduct a military operation constitutes perfidy, which is strictly prohibited under international humanitarian law and tantamount to a war crime,.”
