Israeli Forces Arrest Palestinian Journalist Over Social Media Posts
Ocupied Jerusalem (Quds News Network)- Israeli forces arrested Latifa Abdel Latif, a Palestinian journalist from Occupied Jerusalem, on Sunday evening. The arrest took place at Bab Al-Amoud Square, near Al-Aqsa Mosque. Authorities claim she posted "inciting content" online. According to the Israeli newspaper Maariv, Abdel Latif was detained after sharing a video of Yahya Sinwar, the late Hamas political leader. The video included his statements, and she reportedly praised him in her post. Israeli intelligence in Jerusalem monitored her activity and requested an investigation. Authorities also cited another post in which she shared a video of Sinwar discussing martyrdom, adding her own comment: “He wanted to die a martyr.” The Palestinian Prisoners’ Club warned that Israeli forces are escalating their targeting of Palestinian women through systematic arrests. In a statement on Monday, the organization reported that the total number of female detainees in Israeli jails rose to 26 in March. Israeli forces detained 14 women this month, including three sisters from Hebron, and eight remain in detention. Most women are held on charges of “incitement,” which is often used as a pretext for administrative detention—a policy that allows Israel to detain Palestinians without charge or trial. Since the genocide in Gaza began, Israel has kidnapped around 500 Palestinian women across the West Bank, Jerusalem, and territories occupied in 1948. The actual number of kidnapped women from Gaza remains unknown. Israeli forces have detained around 170 Palestinian journalists since October 7, 2023. Some were released after brief detentions, while others have been held for months. Currently, 52 journalists remain behind bars in Israeli prisons. The overall number of Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails surpassed 9,500 at the start of March 2025. Among them, 3,405 are administrative detainees held without formal charges. Additionally, Israel classifies 1,555 detainees from Gaza as "unlawful combatants", excluding those held in military camps. The real number of detained Gazans is believed to be much higher.
