Israeli forces arrest 6 Palestinian students, attack dozens in Hebron

Hebron (QNN)- Israeli occupation forces arrested six Palestinian schoolchildren on Sunday morning after attacking dozens with tear gas canisters and live bullets in Sa’ir town in Hebron in the occupied West Bank.

Local sources said Israeli occupation forces earlier today raided the town of Sa’ir and attacked Palestinian schoolchildren while on their way to home from school.

The forces fired live bullets and tear gas canisters directly towards the students, resulting in the suffocation of dozens of the students from gas inhalation.

The forces arrested six Palestinian schoolchildren during the attack.

Israeli forces’ attacks against Palestinian students has increased lately and such attacks on schools and other education-related incidents, including attacks on educational personnel, threats of attacks, military use of schools, and other interferences with education, significantly impacted Palestinian children’s right to access education.

Sometimes, Parents are forced to drive their children to and from school every day because they are scared of their children being hurt or arrested by the Israeli occupation soldiers.

The schoolchildren are also forced to take alternative routes through villages fields to get home as Israeli soldiers patrolled the main roads.

According to an August 15 statement by Lynn Hastings, the UN humanitarian and resident coordinator for the occupied Palestinian territories, 24 Palestinian children – five girls and 19 boys – were injured by Israelis in the West Bank since the beginning of the year.

“Israel has a responsibility to protect children and teachers from harassment and violence by settlers on their way to and from school – and in any event,” said Hastings.

In 2019, the United Nations documented 257 education-related incidents in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip that impacted children’s right to access education.

Palestinian children living under Israeli military occupation in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip are routinely denied many rights: right to life, right to education, right to adequate housing, and are denied access to healthcare, among other rights denials inherent in a decades-long Israeli military occupation with no end in sight.
