Israeli FM vows no negotiations with Palestinians when he becomes PM
Occupied Palestine (QNN)- Israeli Occupation Foreign Minister Yair Lapid said on Monday ‘Israel’ will not negotiate a two-state solution with the Palestinians even when he becomes prime minister after the planned rotation in 2023.
Lapid, who is also an alternate prime minister, said the coalition government under his leadership will not negotiate a two-state solution with Palestinians, despite growing international pressure on ‘Israel’ to do so.
“I don’t think that five million Palestinians will disappear, but within the current political context, even after [I rotate in as prime minister], the coalition will be obligated to already reached agreements, and I will abide by every agreement that I made with my partners,” Lapid said in a briefing with reporters.
However, Lapid said that contrary to Bennett, he is prepared to meet with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas if necessary, as his remarks came days after war Minister Benny Gantz met with Abbas.
Israeli PM Bennett’s right-wing Yamina Party is opposed to a two-state solution, while others in the coalition government are more supportive of a peace process with the Palestinians if conditions change.
“There is no reason for me to delude the Palestinians and open a diplomatic process that doesn’t have a coalition behind it…That would damage our credibility, which is important,” Lapid said.
Lapid is set to become prime minister in August of 2023, following a rotation agreement set by the coalition.
