Israeli Envoy to Austria Suggests Executing Gaza Children in Secret Recording

Innsbruck (Quds News Network)- A secretly recorded video has revealed that Israel’s ambassador to Austria, David Roet, suggested executing Palestinian children, accusing them of carrying weapons.
During a closed-door meeting with the Jewish community in Innsbruck on Thursday, Roet stated that teenagers holding a gun or grenade “should be sentenced to death.” He provided no evidence of children carrying weapons in Gaza.

The video was recorded two days after Israel broke the Gaza ceasefire on 18 March. By then, Israel had killed more than 500 Palestinians, including over 200 children.
Roet denied that Israel’s army causes civilian casualties in Gaza. He said: “If you believe that there are no uninvolved [people] in Gaza… you’re believing that Israel is targeting babies intentionally, which is not correct.”
According to UNICEF, Israel has killed more than 14,500 Palestinian children in Gaza since Israel launched its assault on 7 October 2023. This number does not include the children killed after Israel broke the ceasefire.
Overall, Israel has killed more than 50,000 Palestinians and wounded 113,000 since the bombardment began. At least 10,000 people remain missing, likely buried under rubble.
Roet also questioned whether Europe should invest in rebuilding Gaza. He suggested the enclave would simply be destroyed again, normalizing the idea that Israel is carrying out a genocide to wipe out the Palestinian people.
“Will Europe be crazy enough to invest money again in Gaza? So we will have to destroy it the next time,” he remarked.
He further claimed he was in direct contact with Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker via WhatsApp. According to Roet, Stocker sought to reassure him that Austria’s ties with Israel would remain strong.
The activist who filmed the meeting condemned Roet’s remarks.
“I felt sickened by the calm in Mr. Roet’s voice as he made these statements. No one intervened when he suggested the death penalty for children,” they said.
“This shows how corrupted the issue is when those with power suggest war crimes as a solution. To end the suffering, we must challenge the fascist psychopaths who profit from imperialist deals and turn us against each other.”
