Israeli court extends detention of journalist over covering Sheikh Jarrah tensions

Occupied Jerusalem (QNN)- An Israeli court on Friday extended the detention of the journalist Zeina Halawani for five days over her work, covering tensions at the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.

The court claimed that the detention has been extended until Monday to complete the investigation with Halawani.

Israeli forces had arrested Halawani along with the journalist Wahbi Makkiyyeh on Thursday while they were covering an Israeli police crackdown on residents and activists in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.

Journalist Zeina Halawani was beaten while working in the neighborhood several weeks ago and on Thursday before being detained.

Israeli authorities have decided to prevent journalists from entry into the neighborhood, where dozens are threatened of forced displacement, which amounts to a war crime according to international law. Meanwhile, Israeli settlers are allowed to enter the neighborhood under police protection.
