Israeli carpet bombings leave hundreds killed and wounded in Rafah

Rafah (Quds News Network) – The Israeli occupation regime launched a relentless bombardment campaign overnight Sunday-Monday on the densely populated southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah, resulting in the tragic loss of life and countless injuries, with a significant number of victims being children and women.

Health authorities in Rafah reported that the death toll surpassed 100 civilians, including children and women, with hundreds more wounded. The casualties were rushed to hospitals across the city, overwhelming medical facilities and leaving them grappling with a shortage of medications and supplies.

simultaneously, the Palestinian Red Crescent disclosed that the city of Rafah bore the brunt of Israeli airstrikes concentrated in its center, targeting residential homes near the Red Crescent headquarters. Director of Kuwait Hospital, Suhaib Al-Hams, described the dire situation, stating that the hospital is inundated with seriously wounded patients.

Local sources detailed the severity of the onslaught, revealing that Israeli warplanes executed approximately 40 airstrikes, relentlessly targeting homes, mosques, and areas near the border with Egypt.

Mosques such as Al-Rahma in Shaboura and Al-Huda in the Yibna refugee camps, which were sheltering displaced families, were among the primary targets, along with more than 14 inhabited houses.

As the Israeli aggression unfolded, civilian vehicles carrying casualties streamed into Kuwaiti Hospital, while hundreds sought refuge in the hospital to escape the ongoing bombardment, as reported by local sources and witnesses.

The airstrikes also took a toll on the internally displaced refugees, with estimates suggesting that around 1.4 million citizens and displaced individuals are currently present in Rafah. Many had been compelled to relocate from northern Gaza to the south in the early stages of the current aggression.

The Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip, ongoing since October 7, has now resulted in a staggering toll. More than 28,176 individuals have lost their lives, with the majority being innocent civilians, and over 68,000 have sustained injuries.
