Israeli Captive Held in Gaza Urges Israel to Allow Food Into Gaza: “Before I Die From Starvation”
Gaza (Quds News Network)- Al-Quds Brigades has released the final message from an Israeli soldier held in Gaza, recorded before contact was lost with the unit guarding him during Israel’s ground invasion of Deir al-Balah. In a video, he urged Israel to allow food into Gaza before “I die from starvation.”
According to the military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), contact was lost with the unit guarding Rom Braslavski on July 22 following a ground Israeli invasion of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, leaving Braslavski’s fate unknown.
In the footage, taken two days before contact was lost, Braslavski described witnessing the devastating impact of starvation on Gaza's children through televised reports, saying they looked like “skeletons".
He also begged “Israel” to “allow food to enter before I die from starvation,” urging, “If not for the children in Gaza, then for your captives in Gaza.”
He concluded by calling on Israel to end the genocide in Gaza.
In April, the PIJ released a video of Rom addressing both Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump about a deal to release the captives.
“Please, Mr. Prime Minister, get me out of here. Trump, where are your promises? Didn’t you say you would release everyone in a deal?”
Israel resumed its genocide in Gaza on March 18, after walking away from a ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal signed in January. Multiple reports, including some from inside Israel, confirm that Netanyahu continues to block any new prisoner swap.
According to a warning issued on Tuesday by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), the “worst-case scenario of famine” is unfolding in Gaza.
“Mounting evidence shows that widespread starvation, malnutrition, and disease are driving a rise in hunger-related deaths,” the IPC warning said.
“Latest data indicates that famine thresholds have been reached for food consumption in most of the Gaza Strip and for acute malnutrition in Gaza City.”
“Amid relentless conflict, mass displacement, severely restricted humanitarian access, and the collapse of essential services, including healthcare, the crisis has reached an alarming and deadly turning point.”
According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, at least 160 people, including 90 children and infants, have died from starvation and malnutrition in Gaza, as Israel continues to block aid from entering the enclave for five months.
According to Israeli newspaper Haaretz on Thursday, the army said the death toll of around 71,000 killed in Gaza is largely correct, adding that it did not include those missing and buried under the rubble.
On Thursday, Israeli media reported that Israeli military sources recommended reducing the volume of humanitarian aid trucks entering Gaza from 600 to around 200 per day, claiming evaluations show that the Palestinian enclave only requires 200 trucks per day.
