Israeli Army Fires 400 Bullets at Soldier Mistaken for a Palestinian Fighter on October 8

Gaza (Quds News Network)- An Israeli soldier was fatally shot by Israeli forces, using 400 bullets, after they believed he was Palestinian, reported Israeli Ynet. The incident occurred on October 8, the day after the Hamas-led Al-Aqsa Flood military operation.

The report revealed that the soldier, Niv Ayous, 25, a reservist in the “Caracal” unit of the Israeli occupation army, was driving in the Gaza border area when Israeli forces mistakenly identified him as Palestinian. His vehicle was shot and targeted killing him immediately.

The soldier’s mother is now demanding that the Israeli government recognize him as a fallen soldier, rather than a civilian casualty. Yedioth Ahronoth shared details of the incident, which unfolded on the morning of October 8. Ayous had left his in-laws’ home in occupied Asdod to join his unit.

According to the newspaper, Ayous did not wait for an official call-up and was en route to gather equipment before joining the army. At the same time, Israeli security forces had received intelligence about a group of Palestinian resistance fighters.

The confusion occurred when Ayous approached the area, where masked gunmen were present. Fearing they were resistance fighters, Ayous attempted to flee and called the police. However, Israeli forces, suspecting him to be a Palestinian fighter, opened fire on his vehicle, hitting it with more than 400 bullets. Ayous did not survive the attack.

Israeli police later confirmed the error, stating that Ayous had been caught in the “fog of war” and was mistaken for a resistance fighter due to the chaotic situation in the area. His family, however, remains unsatisfied with the state’s recognition of him as a civilian casualty. His mother, Karen Ayous, is leading a campaign for the Israeli military to recognize her son as a fallen soldier.
