Israeli Accounts and Networks Aligned with Ousted Regime Spread False Narratives to Justify Israel’s Intervention in Syria

Damascus (Quds News Network)- A new investigation by Arabi Post revealed a coordinated campaign by Israeli-linked accounts and pro-Bashar Al-Assad networks on X (formerly Twitter), promoting claims about Israel’s “need to protect minorities” as a pretext for Israeli intervention in Syria.

The analysis examined nearly 20,000 tweets. It found a large amount of disinformation spread to inflame internal tensions and systematically manipulate facts. The campaign exaggerated claims of sectarian tensions, pushing the idea that “minorities need Israeli protection.”

The investigation highlighted that some accounts aim to justify Israeli intervention and support separatist movements, with tweets even suggesting Syria was better off under Assad’s rule.

The analysis identified three main types of accounts involved in this campaign: Israeli accounts, pro-Assad accounts, and anonymous accounts.

Some Israeli accounts were easily identifiable, while others remained anonymous. These accounts, along with Israeli electronic committees, helped amplify the narrative using Arabic names.

Pro-Assad accounts have been active since the regime’s fall in December, with hundreds of new accounts created in early 2025. These accounts spread false news and misinformation, further stoking tensions.

Anonymous accounts support Israeli claims of “minority persecution” in Syria, claiming to be Iraqi or Kurdish in origin. These accounts amplify Israeli and pro-Assad content, promoting specific hashtags.

The investigation also noted that some accounts play a key role in pushing content, with high levels of engagement in short bursts. This suggests the use of bots or fake accounts to boost targeted messages.

The study emphasized that this amplification isn’t random. It’s part of a calculated strategy to manipulate public discourse and give the false impression of widespread support for the ideas being promoted. Some accounts, created only weeks ago, were posting over 200 tweets daily—indicating suspicious activity typical of automated accounts.

Since the Assad regime’s fall, Israel has escalated its military presence in southern Syria, launching airstrikes on military sites, claiming it was to prevent weapons from reaching the new government.

Recently, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatened military action under the pretext of protecting the Druze in Syria. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar stated that the idea of a unified Syria with effective governance was unrealistic, suggesting autonomy for minorities, possibly in a federal system.

The Wall Street Journal reported Israel’s plan to invest $1 billion to incite the Druze in Syria to oppose the new government.
