Israel Violates Lebanon Ceasefire 140 Times, Targets Border Crossings
Beirut (Quds News Network)- Israel continues to breach the fragile ceasefire with Lebanon, which came into effect on November 27. Early Friday, Israeli forces entered the towns of Aitaroun in Nabatieh and Ayta Al-Shaab in Bint Jbeil. The incursion included movements of tanks and military vehicles.
Lebanese news agency NNA reported that Israeli forces used medium machine guns during a sweeping operation in Ayta Al-Shaab overnight. On Thursday evening, an Israeli airstrike in the same town injured five people, further violating the ceasefire agreement.
Lebanon’s Border Crossings Attacked
Lebanese Transport Minister Ali Hamieh confirmed that Israeli airstrikes early Friday hit two border crossings linking Lebanon and Syria. The Al-Arida crossing in northern Lebanon and the Jousieh crossing in the east were targeted.
Since the escalation began on September 23, Israeli attacks have resulted in 4,047 deaths and 16,643 injuries in Lebanon. Women and children make up a significant number of the victims. Around 1.4 million people have been displaced, with most casualties and displacements occurring after intensified attacks in late September.
The ceasefire agreement included key conditions: Israeli forces must withdraw south of the Blue Line within 60 days, and Lebanese Army and security forces are tasked with controlling the border and southern regions. Despite this, Israel has committed 140 ceasefire violations, killing 14 Lebanese and injuring 18 others.
The agreement also mandates the Lebanese Army to be the sole armed force in the region, with unauthorized weapons and military sites dismantled. A supervisory committee was also formed to ensure implementation, but repeated Israeli violations undermine these efforts.
The fragile truce remains at risk, as Lebanon faces ongoing attacks and mounting civilian losses.
