Israel Violates Ceasefire Agreements, Seeks Escalation with Attack in Lebanon

Sidon (Quds News Network)- An Israeli drone attack targeted a car in Sidon, southern Lebanon, on Monday, just a day before the deadline for Israeli forces to withdraw. The attack targeted a senior Hamas figure, escalating tensions in the region.

Lebanon’s official National News Agency confirmed the strike, stating that the vehicle was targeted on the coastal highway near Sidon’s municipal stadium. The Lebanese Ministry of Health later reported one fatality.

Israeli Army Radio described the target as a “high-ranking figure” but did not disclose a name. Israeli media reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu left a court session to approve the assassination. A Lebanese security source told Al Jazeera that the strike targeted a Hamas member.

Israeli Channel 14’s military correspondent, Noam Amir, claimed that the attack killed Mohammad Shahin, a military personnel in Hamas. However, Lebanese authorities are conducting DNA tests to confirm the victim’s identity.

Israeli Forces Resume Assaults in Southern Lebanon

Following the airstrike, Israeli forces re-entered Kfarchouba in southern Lebanon, despite withdrawing from the area three weeks ago. Lebanese security sources reported that Israeli tanks and bulldozers invaded the town and its western outskirts.

An Israeli drone also bombed the area around Kfarchouba’s school, which had already been destroyed in a previous airstrike. Israeli warplanes later launched strikes on multiple towns in eastern Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley, setting off fires in the region. The Israeli military claimed it was targeting Hezbollah infrastructure.

Hezbollah’s Deputy Secretary-General Naim Qassem had rejected any justification for extending Israel’s presence in southern Lebanon. He insisted that Israel must withdraw by the agreed-upon deadline and stated that Israel repeatedly violated the ceasefire agreement.

In contrast, Netanyahu addressed the Lebanese people directly, ordering them to dismantle Hezbollah. He threatened that if they failed to do so, Israel would take action.
