‘Israel’ vandalizes ancient Roman palace in Jericho

Occupied Jericho (QNN)- The Israeli Antiques Authority continues to carry out illegal excavations at the Winter Palace of King Herod in southern Jericho.

The manager of Jericho and the central area at the Palestinian Ministry of Tourism, Iyyad Hamdan, said that the Israeli Antiques Authority has been carrying out “incomprehensible operations” under the pretext of building an archaeological park.

Hamdan told QNN that the Israelis have fenced the area and carried out dredging operations at the site, which is one of the most important Roman sites.

He said that 90% of the site is located in area C. The Palestinian Authority tried in 2010 to enforce its full sovereignty on the site but the Israelis rejected it.

Hamdan explained that the site is located within Palestine borders, which means that everything the Israelis do at the site is illegal and violates international law. What they are trying is to change the site and change the identity of the whole area, he added.

He also said that everything on the Palestinian land is Palestinian regardless of the religion of its creators. Palestine has been always a harbor of all religions and the Palestinians are used to take care of all archeological sites, which belong to all religions.
