Israel to Release About 2,000 Palestinians in Exchange for Captives Held in Gaza as Part of First Phase of Trump Plan

Gaza (QNN)- The Israeli occupation is set to release around 2,000 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for captives held in Gaza, including 1,700 people who were abducted from Gaza since October 2023, as part of the first phase of the Trump plan and following the approval of a ceasefire deal.
The list of Palestinian prisoners set to be released from Israeli prisons as part of the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire deal has yet to be made public.
Israel and Hamas reached an agreement on Thursday on the identity of the Palestinian prisoners to be released as part of the deal to end the genocide, according to a report by the Al Araby.
Who Will Be Released?
- In total, 250 prisoners serving life sentences from Israeli jails and around 1,700 Palestinians from Gaza, who did not participate in the October 7 resistance operation and have been abducted and detained by Israeli forces since October 7, are set to be released.
- 22 Palestinian minors from Gaza will be freed and 360 bodies will also be transferred to the Strip.
With Israel having approved the first phase of the ceasefire deal with Hamas late on Thursday night, a prisoner for captives swap is set to take place over the coming days.
Hamas now has 72 hours from Israel’s approving the deal to return 20 living captives it still holds in Gaza, meaning the release will likely take place on Sunday or Monday, according to reports.
After that, Hamas will return the bodies of the 28 deceased captives, though the timeline for that is currently unclear.
