‘Israel’ to advance plans for 3,988 illegal housing units in occupied West Bank

Occupied West Bank (QNN)- Israeli occupation authorities will advance plans for the construction of 3,988 settler housing units in occupied West Bank’s illegal settlements next week.

Israel’s so-called Civil Administration, the governing body that operates in the occupied West Bank, said in a statement on Friday that it will advance nearly 4,000 settler housing units in illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank next week.

According to the statement, 1,452 plans for illegal units are expected to be advanced while 2,536 units are expected to be approved by War Minister Benny Gantz in a meeting slated for Thursday.

The construction plans up for approval would see 364 new housing units built in the illegal settlement of Dolev, 534 in Shvut Rahel, 761 in Betar Ilit, 56 in Negohot, and 156 in Kiryat Arba.

Additional units will be submitted for objections, with 500 housing units for the illegal settlement of Elkana, 286 for Kedumim, and 192 for the settlement of Sha’arei Tikva, Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported.

If approved, it would be the biggest advancement of illegal settlement plans since US President Joe Biden took office. The White House is opposed to settlement construction, saying it further erodes the possibility of an eventual two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian “conflict.”

There are nearly 600,000 Israeli settlers living in at least 256 illegal settlements and outposts scattered across the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem. Israeli settlements are illegal under international law.
