Israel Stumbles in Outrage Following Wave of Palestine Recognition

Occupied Palestine (QNN)- Israel reacted with fury on Sunday after Britain, Canada, Australia, and Portugal officially recognized the State of Palestine. The announcements came as world leaders gather for the 80th UN General Assembly in New York.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes in Gaza, declared that a Palestinian state “will never exist west of the Jordan River.”

Netanyahu called the recognition a “massive prize for terrorism” after the October 7 operation.

“For years, I blocked the establishment of this terrorist state despite huge pressures,” he said. “We doubled Jewish settlement in Judea and Samaria, and we will continue this path”, referring to Israeli colonial settlements in the West Bank.

He promised to deliver a full response after returning from the United States. “Wait for it,” he threatened.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry dismissed the recognitions as a “reward for Hamas” driven by “the Muslim Brotherhood in the UK.”

National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir called the move “a reward for murderers” and demanded an immediate response.

“We must impose sovereignty over Judea and Samaria and crush the Palestinian Authority completely,” he said.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said that foreign powers no longer dictate Israel’s fate. “The days when Britain or other states decided our future are over,” he said, urging annexation of the West Bank.

Yair Golan, leader of the Israeli Democrats, said the recognitions exposed a “massive political failure” by Netanyahu and Smotrich.

“This is a devastating blow to Israel’s security,” he said.

A Wave of Recognition

Nine countries have confirmed plans to recognize Palestine during the UN session: Britain, France, Australia, Canada, Belgium, Luxembourg, Malta, Andorra, San Marino, and Portugal.

By the end of the assembly, Palestine will be recognized by 147 out of 193 UN member states. With Britain, France, and Portugal on board, Palestine will soon enjoy recognition from four of the five permanent UN Security Council members. Only the United States stands opposed.

What’s Next

Israel vows to escalate settlement building and strengthen its grip on the occupied West Bank. Palestinians see the growing recognition as a legal and political breakthrough, boosting their campaign for full UN membership and accountability for Israeli war crimes.

Yet many observers warn that the recognition comes too little, too late. The ongoing genocide in Gaza and ethnic cleansing in the West Bank continue, and international recognition alone cannot halt the immediate suffering. For Palestinians, the urgent need remains real action against Israel, not just diplomatic statements.
