“Israel” refuses to fund conducting urgent surgical procedure for Palestinian detainee Jaabis
Occupied Palestine (QNN) - The “Israeli Prison Service” decided on Tuesday not to fund an urgent surgical procedure for Palestinian detainee Israa Jaabis which would help her breathe through her nose.
Israeli public broadcaster Kan said that Jaabis' defense team had submitted an appeal to the Israeli occupation supreme court in this regard; however, the Israeli prison Service announced that it would not fund the surgery.
Earlier, the occupation Minister of Internal Security, Omer Barlev, said that the surgery for Jaabis would not be funded.
Detainee Jaabis, a married mother of one from Jabal Al-Mukaber village, south of occupied Jerusalem, suffers from multiple severe burns and injuries after a cooking gas canister she was transporting caused a fire in her car hundreds of meters away from an Israeli checkpoint in occupied Jerusalem in October 2015.
The occupation courts alleged that detainee Jaabis was trying to carry out an attack against Israeli forces and sentenced her to 11 years in prison.
According to Palestinian figures, about 4,500 Palestinians, including 32 women and 160 children, are currently languishing in Israeli detention jails.
