Israel places Palestinian leader Marwan al-Barghouti in solitary confinement
Ramallah (Quds News Network) – Marwan al-Barghouti, a prominent Fatah official and imprisoned Palestinian leader, has been placed in solitary confinement at Ramla prison, according to the head of the PLO Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Authority, Qadura Fares.
The decision to transfer al-Barghouti to solitary confinement comes in the wake of recent statements made by the extremist Israeli minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who explicitly called for this punitive measure against the Palestinian leader. The alarming call for isolation raises concerns about the potential impact on al-Barghouti’s well-being.
Qadura Fares highlighted that the extensive transfers and the use of collective and solitary confinement tactics by Israeli authorities have become widespread, affecting a significant number of Palestinian prisoners. These practices have intensified following the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza, marking a troubling trend in the treatment of Palestinian detainees.
Expressing genuine concerns about al-Barghouti’s life, Fares emphasized that the repeated transfers to solitary confinement, coupled with the continued ban on lawyers visiting him, create a precarious situation for the imprisoned Fatah official.
