Israel kills American activist during peaceful anti-settlement protest in the West Bank
Occupied West Bank (Quds News Network)– An American activist, Aysenur Ezgi, was fatally shot by Israeli forces on Friday during a peaceful anti-settlement protest in the town of Beita, located in the Nablus governorate of the northern occupied West Bank.
Fouad Nafi’a, director of Rafidia Governmental Hospital, told Anadolu Agency, “An American citizen arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the head. Medical teams attempted resuscitation, but she succumbed to her injuries.”
Eyewitnesses reported that Israeli forces fired live ammunition at Palestinians participating in the anti-settlement demonstration on Mount Sobeih in Beita, south of Nablus. The protest was part of ongoing resistance against the illegal Israeli settlement of Evyatar, which has been established atop the mountain.
Aysenur Ezgi held American citizenship and was a volunteer with the “Fazaa” campaign, an initiative aimed at supporting and protecting Palestinian farmers from ongoing settler and military aggression.
Beita has become a focal point for nonviolent resistance against Israeli settlement expansion, with locals organizing weekly marches every Friday following Friday prayers. Protesters demand the evacuation of Evyatar settlement, which is illegal and oppressive presence on Palestinian land. The demonstrations have frequently been met with violence from Israeli forces, often resulting in injuries and fatalities.
