Israel Kills Al Jazeera photojournalist in Gaza Ahmed Al-Louh
Gaza (Quds News Network)- An Israeli airstrike killed Al Jazeera photojournalist Ahmed Al-Louh in Al-Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza on Saturday.
The attack targeted a Civil Defense site near the camp’s marketplace, according to Al-Awda Hospital. Medical staff confirmed that the body of Ahmed Al-Louh arrived at the hospital after the strike.
Al-Louh’s death adds to the growing toll of journalists killed by Israel while reporting on its genocide in Gaza. Reports from media freedom organizations describe the targeting of reporters as a massacre.
A Deadly Year for Journalists
Reporters Without Borders (RSF) had stated that 18 journalists have been killed by Israel in 2024, including 16 in Gaza and two in Lebanon. This figure represents one-third of the 54 journalists killed worldwide this year.
“Palestine is the most dangerous country for journalists,” RSF said in its annual report. The organization noted that 145 journalists have been killed in Gaza since October 2023, with 35 killed while on assignment.
RSF filed four complaints with the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Israel’s war crimes against journalists.
The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) reported a total of 104 journalist deaths worldwide in 2024, with over half occurring in Gaza. The IFJ called Israel’s attacks on media workers a massacre.
“This year has been one of the deadliest for journalists,” IFJ Secretary General Anthony Bellanger said. He condemned Israel’s actions as “a massacre unfolding before the world’s eyes.”
The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) echoed these concerns. “Deliberately targeting journalists is a war crime under international law,” said Carlos Martinez de la Serna, CPJ’s Program Director.
Israel has been targeting journalists to suppress reporting on war crimes in Gaza. Foreign reporters have been banned from entering the territory since the genocide began.
According to Gaza’s Government Media Office, Israeli forces have killed 195 Palestinian journalists since October 2023.
