Israel Kills a Palestinian Woman Nearly Every Hour in Gaza, Rights Group Warns
Gaza (Quds News Network)- Israel is killing women in Gaza at an average rate of 21.3 per day, nearly one every hour, according to the Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor. In a statement released Sunday, the group said these figures do not include thousands of women who have died due to siege, starvation, and a lack of medical care, meaning the real death toll is likely much higher. The organization stated that Israel is carrying out systematic and deliberate attacks against Palestinian women, especially mothers. It said women are being killed in their homes, in displacement tents, in shelters, and even while trying to flee with their children. Most of those killed, according to the report, were young mothers or pregnant women, making the attacks a direct threat to the future of Palestinian society and a serious violation of international humanitarian law. Euro-Med documented 7,920 mothers killed over the past 582 days of genocide. Among the victims was 24-year-old Naifa Sadeq Ali Oweidah, killed alongside her husband and two baby daughters—24-day-old Ayloul and 18-month-old Zeina—when Israeli forces struck their tent in Khan Younis at dawn. In a similar incident, Nada Abu Shaqra and her entire family were killed. Another attack on April 17 in Jabalia took the lives of Khadija Asaliyya, 30, her husband, and their five children when an Israeli drone hit their tent. The group also shared the testimony of Sabrine Salem, a survivor of a December 19, 2024 strike on a building in Gaza. She said 135 people were inside. “One hundred and twenty were killed,” she said. “Pregnant women’s bodies were torn apart. The scenes were unbearable.” Euro-Med highlighted the suffering of 60,000 pregnant women in Gaza living under dire conditions due to the Israeli blockade and the denial of humanitarian aid since early March. The group said this amounts to the forcible prevention of births—defined as an act of genocide under the 1948 Genocide Convention. According to the statement, Israel’s actions include not only the direct killing of women but also the destruction of Gaza’s healthcare system, the blocking of medicine, and the starvation of mothers. These factors are leading to slow deaths and serious long-term health consequences. The report described the psychological toll on Palestinian mothers who have lost children, spouses, and homes. One woman, Abeer H., a mother of four from Gaza, said, “We’ve been displaced more than ten times. I can’t reassure my children. Every night we sleep to the sound of bombing. I cry in fear I won’t wake up and see them alive. I’m a mother without food or strength.” Euro-Med called on all governments to take immediate action to stop the genocide in Gaza and protect Palestinian civilians. It urged the international community to impose sanctions on Israel, including halting arms sales, ending military and political support, freezing the assets of Israeli leaders, banning their travel, and suspending bilateral trade agreements that benefit Israel. The rights group warned that decades of impunity have only encouraged Israel to continue committing atrocities. “Now is the time to end complicity and bring justice,” the statement concluded. Since October 7, 2023, Israel’s military assault on Gaza has killed 52,862 Palestinians and injured 119,648 more. A severe famine continues to spread across the besieged coastal strip as Israel continues to block humanitarian aid.
