Israel Kills 22 Lebanese, Bans Return of Residents from 66 Southern Towns

Southern Lebanon (Quds News Network)- Israeli forces killed 22 Lebanese, including one soldier, and injured 124 others in a new violation of the ceasefire. The Lebanese Health Ministry confirmed the casualties, stating the numbers are not final. The Israeli army also banned residents from returning to 66 towns in southern Lebanon.

Israeli troops attacked Lebanese civilians returning to their homes in the towns of Houla and Kfar Kila. They kidnapped two civilians in Houla and took them to an Israeli facility. Roads to border towns in southern Lebanon saw heavy traffic as residents tried to return despite Israeli threats. The Lebanese army increased its presence in the south to maintain order.

Ceasefire Violations

On Sunday, the 60-day deadline for Israeli forces to withdraw from southern Lebanon under the November 27, 2024, ceasefire agreement expired. However, Israeli troops remain in some border areas, violating the agreement.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun urged southern residents to remain calm and trust the armed forces. He emphasized Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are non-negotiable. Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said that Israel is violating Lebanon’s sovereignty and the ceasefire terms. Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati called on international ceasefire guarantors to deter Israeli aggression and enforce withdrawal. He warned that failing to uphold the ceasefire and UN Resolution 1701 would have severe consequences. Prime Minister-designate Nawaf Salam expressed full confidence in the Lebanese army to protect sovereignty and ensure residents’ safe return.

Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee claimed that Hezbollah caused destruction in the south. He announced a ban on Lebanese residents returning to 66 southern towns, accusing Hezbollah of exploiting civilians.
