Israel Invades Al-Mantra Dam Area in Syria's Quneitra Province
Quneitra (Quds News Network)- Israeli forces infiltrated into the Al-Mantra Dam area in Syria’s Quneitra province on Friday. Troops searched former military sites once held by militia loyal to ousted Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad.
After completing their operation, Israeli forces withdrew from the area, according to local sources.
Israeli media outlets, including Yedioth Ahronoth and Maariv, cited Syrian reports that the Israeli army also carried out an airstrike on Tel Al-Shahem military site in western Damascus. Following the strike, Israeli troops reportedly took control of Al-Mantra Dam.
The new Syrian administration has yet to comment on these developments.
Al-Mantra Dam is a vital water source for Quneitra province. It supports irrigation and sustains the region’s agricultural activities. Residents of Quneitra have called for an end to Israeli incursions and demanded the withdrawal of Israeli forces from their province.
Since the fall of Assad’s regime on December 8 last year, Israel has conducted multiple incursions along the border between Quneitra and the occupied Golan Heights.
Israel declared the collapse of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement with Syria. The Israeli army has since expanded into the demilitarized buffer zone in the Syrian Golan Heights, most of which Israel has occupied since 1967.
The United Nations and several Arab states have condemned Israel’s actions, stressing that they constitute a violation of international agreements.
Two Palestinians, including a 14-year-old boy, were shot and killed by Israeli settlers on Tuesday in the village of Al-Mughayyir in the occupied West Bank. A total of three Palestinians have been killed so far today by Israeli settlers across the occupied territories, including two children, amid a spike in settler violence against Palestinians.
Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot has urged the EU to impose sanctions on Israel ahead of a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg, joining seven EU countries, including France and Sweden, in the call. He also slammed the Israeli assault on Lebanon as “totally unacceptable.”
France and Sweden have co-signed a paper urging the European Union to ban imports from illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank, and to consider tariffs and tighter import restrictions on such goods.
