‘Israel’ extends administrative detention of senior Hamas member Jamal al-Taweel

Occupied Palestine (QNN) – The Israeli occupation authorities on Tuesday renewed the administrative detention order against senior Hamas member Jamal al-Taweel, a resident of al-Bireh city in the occupied West Bank.

The occupation authorities decided to extend the detention of Shaikh al-Taweel for more six months for the third time in a row.

After being released from Israeli jails in March 2021 upon serving an eight-month administrative detention order, the senior Hamas member al-Taweel was re-detained by the Israeli occupation authorities on June 2, 2021 from his home in al-Bireh.

Al-Taweel launched an open-ended hunger strike for almost a month to protest the continued administrative detention order against his daughter Bushra. He later suspended it after setting a time limit for her administrative detention.

On March 21, 2022, the Israeli occupation authorities detained the daughter of al-Taweel ex-detainee and journalist Bushra, while passing across a military checkpoint in Nablus.

According to Palestinian figures, about 4,500 Palestinians, including 32 women and 160 children, are currently languishing in Israeli detention jails.

Among them, close to 530 Palestinians are currently being held under Israel’s illegal policy of administrative detention without charge or trial.
