Israel Bombs School-turned-Shelter in Gaza’s “Safe Zone”, Kills at Least 20 People
Gaza (Quds News Network)- More than 20 displaced Palestinians were killed on Sunday evening in an Israeli attack on a UN-run school sheltering hundreds of families in the al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis, which Israel had designated as a “humanitarian zone.”
Local sources reported that the attack on the UNRWA-run school Ahmed bin Abdul Aziz School came “without any warning,” as displaced civilians, including women and children, were struck while they were sleeping.
The school, a three-storey building, is located next to the Nasser Medical Complex. The third floor was struck, leaving behind a huge level of destruction.
The sources added some of the bodies were shredded to pieces due to the scale of the attack.

The school was estimated to be sheltering hundreds of Palestinian families and is located in a spot busy with civilian activity.
This was the second Israeli attack on a school in Gaza. Earlier, Israeli occupation forces abducted Palestinian men, forcibly displaced women and children, and killed at least 15 others after raiding the Khaleel Oweida School, a shelter for displaced people, in Beit Hanoun, northern Gaza.
According to the survivors, who had sought refuge in the Khaleel Oweida school, Israeli forces carried out intense bombardments on the school, leaving behind up to 15 charred bodies of civilians who had been caught in the flames.
Since the start of the ongoing genocide, the Israeli military has repeatedly targeted schools-turned-shelters across Gaza. These attacks have included shelling, direct shootings, and the killing of forcibly displaced people and their families or making them leave the schools under fire and/or with orders to flee.
