Gaza (Quds News Network)- Israeli forces have attacked the surgical building within the Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, killing two people and injuring 8 others according to initial numbers.

The assault resulted in a significant fire, endangering numerous patients and medical staff present at the time.

The Israeli army acknoeledged the attack on the hospital, adding that it targeted Ismail Barhoum, a member of the political bureau of Hamas resistance movement. Barhoum was being treated in the hospital after being ijured in a recent Israeli attack.

The Ministry of Health reported the incident, highlighting the severe risks posed to those sheltering within the facility. This attack adds to a series of Israeli actions against medical establishments in the region.

Under international humanitarian law, hospitals and medical facilities are protected and should not be targeted during armed conflicts. This protection extends to the wounded, sick, medical staff, and means of transport. Exceptions are rare and do not justify attacking such establishments.

Additionally, holding political or civilian roles within a party that has an armed wing does not render individuals combatants. Non-combat roles or mere affiliation do not strip away civilian status unless the person directly engages in hostilities.
