‘Israel’ bans “Jenin Jenin”, imposes $55,000 compensation on its director
Occupied Palestine (QNN)- An Israeli court ruled on Monday to ban the screening and distribution of Mohammed Bakri’s documentary “Jenin, Jenin”. It also ordered to seize all copies of the documentary and imposed a $55,000 compensation fine on Bakri.
Bakri has been ordered to pay Israeli Lt.-Col NIS 175 thousand (over $55,000) as compensation for ‘defamation’. The Israeli soldier appeared for a few seconds in the documentary while he was on duty.
The Israeli judge accused Bakri of “not checking, even slightly, the claims of the people he interviewed, but chose to present them as part of a film presuming to reflect facts and reality.”
The indictment also noted that Bakri ‘failed’ to present any evidence that supported the claims that he made in his film.
The documentary covers an Israeli operation in Jenin in 2002, when Israeli forces carried out a massacre in the refugee camp, murdering 58 citizens, according to a report by the UN.
According to Human Right Watch, at least 140 buildings completely destroyed, severe damage caused 200 additional buildings rendered uninhabitable or unsafe.
