Israel arrested 800 Palestinians during campaigning period

Ramallah (QNN)- The Palestinian Detainees and Ex-detainees Affairs Committee issued on Wednesday a report documenting 800 arrests among Palestinians during the Israeli campaigning period in 2019, which started on February 22 and ended on April 9.

The report said that such large number of arrests among Palestinians is considered as a serious Israeli escalation in the context of Israeli parties and extremist leaders campaigns, which have been attracting Israeli voters using hate and revenge speech against Palestinians in addition to daily practices that aimed to stifle Palestinians.

“The campaigning period witnessed continuous raids targeting Palestinians’ cells and unprecedented stifling of Palestinian prisoners, which created conditions that could be described as the worst in Israeli jails. Negev, Rimon, Nafha, Eshel, and Jalbu’ Israeli prisons were raided and repression units used excessive force dealing with the prisoners. Beating with truncheons, electric shocks, tear gas, stun grenades, rubber-coated bullets, live bullets, vandalism, solitary confinement, and visits ban are all ways, which the Israelis used against Palestinian prisoners to attract Israeli voters”, according to the report.
