‘Israel’ arrested 70 women since the start of 2019

Ramallah (QNN)- The studies unit at Palestine Prisoners Centre revealed that the Israeli authorities arrested 70 Palestinian women in the first half of 2019.
Spokesperson of the centre Ryad Ashqar said in a press conference on Saturday that the occupation state targets Palestinian women and young girls arresting them and sentencing them to lengthy periods in jail, as a method of intimidation.
The arrests doesn’t exclude old or wounded women or even very young girls. Some arrests are being carried out for social media posts or poems.
The total number of Palestinian women in Israeli jails has increased to reach nearly 60.
One of the female prisoners is Alia Khatib, who was directly shot in her leg then arrested without providing any medical care.
Walaa Akram (16 years old) is also arrested, who was arrested near the Ibrahimi mosque in Hebron. Fawziyyah Mara’beh (71 years old) was also arrested despite being sick.
Al Ashqar said that many women were arrested during visits to imprisoned family members. Other prisoners like the lawyer Amal Jamal and Suhair Barghouthi, were arrested to put pressure on their imprisoned husbands to confess.
