Ireland Rejects Israeli Minister’s Claim That It Should Accept Expelled Gazans

Occupied Palestine (Quds News Network)- Ireland rejected Israel’s claim that countries critical of its genocide in Gaza should accept expelled Palestinians. The Irish Foreign Ministry called the claim “unhelpful and a source of distraction” from efforts to ensure Palestinians return safely to their homes.

An Irish Foreign Ministry spokesperson reaffirmed Ireland’s stance, according to Anadolu Ajansı. Ireland supports a lasting ceasefire, the release of ‘hostages’, increased humanitarian aid, and the reconstruction of Gaza, which has suffered over 15 months of Israeli bombardment. The spokesperson also emphasized the need for a political process leading to a two-state solution.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Katz claimed that nations like Spain, Ireland, and Norway—countries that recognized Palestine in May and have criticized Israel’s genocide—are “legally obligated” to accept expelled Gazans. His statement followed similar remarks from US President Donald Trump, who suggested expelling Palestinians to Egypt and Jordan. The Arab world and other nations have rejected that proposal.

Spain also dismissed Katz’s comments. Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares stated that the issue of where Palestinians should go is “not up for debate.”
