Iran Infiltrates Israel: New Espionage Network Uncovered
Occupied Palestine (Quds News Network)- Israeli authorities revealed the arrest of Alexander Granovsky, 29, a settler in Petah Tikva, on charges of espionage for Iran. The Israeli military and Shin Bet conducted the investigation jointly, leading to Granovsky’s detention in December 2024.
Israel accuse the settler of carrying out multiple security-related espionage tasks for foreign operatives. These include setting fire to eight vehicles, photographing sensitive infrastructure in central Israel, and filming the entrance to the neighborhood of former Defense Minister Benny Gantz. He also allegedly purchased military uniforms to film a staged burning of the attire.
Granovsky reportedly received financial compensation for these tasks. Investigators claim he knew his actions could harm Israel’s security. Other alleged missions included gathering residential addresses of Israeli ministers, setting police vehicles ablaze, and transmitting personal details about an Israeli citizen to assess recruitment potential for terrorism.
On Monday, prosecutors submitted a statement of intent to indict Granovsky. A formal indictment is expected in the coming days at the Central District Court.
This case follows Sunday’s conviction of another Israeli settler, Moti Maman, from Ashkelon. Maman, in his 70s, admitted to working with Iranian intelligence during trips to Iran. Court documents revealed he discussed potential operations, including assassinations of Israeli officials such as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Shin Bet Director Ronen Bar.
Earlier this month, Israeli security sources reported the arrest of 30 Israelis for alleged spying activities tied to nine Iranian-led cells. This marks one of Tehran’s most extensive infiltration attempts in decades.
