Intense Clashes Erupt Between Israeli Forces and Residents in Syria’s Daraa Countryside
Daraa (Quds News Network)- Heavy fighting broke out between Israeli forces and local residents in the Hauran region of Daraa countryside, southern Syria. The clashes erupted during an invasion of Israeli forces into the Syrian territory. In the same vein, the Syrian news agency (SANA) reported that an Israeli airstrike targeted the area around the Scientific Research Building in the Barzeh neighborhood of Damascus on Wednesday. The attack also targeted Hama Military Airport. Israeli warplanes carried out more than 10 airstrikes on Hama Military Airport. Casualties among both military forces and civilians have been reported. Israeli forces launched artillery and tank fire at Tell Al-Jomou in western Daraa on Wednesday evening. The shelling came after an Israeli incursion near Nawa city, prompting calls for general mobilization among locals. Reports confirmed that eight artillery shells struck Jubailiya Forest, located 10 kilometers from Nawa. Israeli forces changed direction after the attack, moving toward Tasil Dam instead of advancing further into the forest. No casualties or property damage were reported. Israeli drones were spotted flying over the region, marking an escalation in Israeli military movements along Syria’s border with the occupied Golan Heights. In recent months, Israel has repeatedly sent ground troops into rural areas of Daraa and Quneitra provinces. On Wednesday evening, an Israeli military convoy reached Tell Al-Ahmar Al-Gharbi in the Quneitra countryside. The troops entered from the occupied Golan Heights through a newly constructed road built by Israeli forces as part of their territorial expansion. Tell Al-Jomou is a highly strategic hill, rising 200 meters above the surrounding area. It overlooks Sheikh Maskin in central Daraa to the east and Wadi Al-Yarmouk to the south. Israel has repeatedly targeted the site due to its military and intelligence significance. Israeli forces fired a flare bomb over Koya village in the Yarmouk Basin, western Daraa. Local sources confirmed that the flare originated from an Israeli outpost in Maaria village. Residents fear a full-scale military escalation, as Israeli incursions have become a daily occurrence. Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned Israel’s latest attacks, calling them a violation of international law and Syrian sovereignty. The ministry reported that Israeli airstrikes hit five different locations within 30 minutes, causing severe destruction, including the complete devastation of Hama Military Airport and multiple injuries among civilians and soldiers. The statement stressed that Israel is deliberately destabilizing Syria and hindering reconstruction efforts after 14 years of war. Syria urged the international community to take action and pressure Israel to end its military operations. It also called on the United Nations to intervene and prevent further violations.
