ICJ resumes trial against Israel for committing genocide in Gaza

The Hague (Quds News Network) – The International Court of Justice (ICJ) reconvened today to continue the trial against Israel for committing the crime of genocide in the Gaza Strip. The charges stem from a lawsuit filed by South Africa, with backing from numerous nations, marking a historic moment in the centuries-long Palestinian question.

In the ongoing session, Israel is presenting its response to the lawsuit brought forth by South Africa. The trial began on the previous day, featuring South Africa’s comprehensive 84-page dossier, which meticulously compiles evidence of Israel’s mass killing of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza.

The document contends that Israel’s actions have created conditions conducive to “physically destroying” the population, constituting a crime of genocide.

The initial focus of the hearings centered on South Africa’s plea for urgent measures to compel Israel to halt its military offensive in Gaza. The proceedings kicked off with an opening statement from South Africa’s Minister of Justice, Ronald Lamola, followed by a detailed presentation by South Africa’s representative before the ICJ.

The legal action initiated by South Africa against Israel has garnered substantial support, both regionally and globally. The case, lodged at the International Court of Justice, challenges Israel’s actions as an occupying force.

Since October 7 of last year, the Israeli occupation has waged a destructive war on the Gaza Strip, resulting in an ongoing humanitarian crisis. The toll includes over 23,000 fatalities, with 59,000 individuals sustaining injuries—of which 70% are women and children. Shockingly, over 7,000 people remain missing under the rubble.

The extensive damage extends beyond loss of life, encompassing massive infrastructure destruction, leading to an unparalleled health and humanitarian catastrophe.
