Human rights watchdog: Int community must pressure ‘Israel’ to uphold Palestinian prsioners’ rights amidst coronavirus spread
The Israelis arrest eight Palestinian prisoners in the same cell while they hold four Israeli criminals in cells of the same size.
Occupied Palestine (QNN)-Commemorating Palestinian Prisoners’ Day, Al Mezan human right watchdog called on the International community to uphold the rights of Palestinian prisoners and detainees, especially with the spread of coronavirus.
The human rights center stressed that ‘Israel’ continues to hold Palestinians in overcrowding, unsanitary conditions, and inadequate access to healthcare, which, as the highly contagious COVID-19 spreads through the occupation state, puts them at increased risk.
“The risks increase amidst the Israeli media blackout and the lack of precautionary measures to protect them from the virus”, Al Mezan stated in its statement.
The center added that the overcrowded Israeli jails contain 5000 Palestinian prisoners, according to recent statistics, including 43 women, 180 children, and 430 administrative detainees.
The statement also said that the Israelis arrest eight Palestinian prisoners in the same cell while they hold four Israeli criminals in cells of the same size.
