HRF to File Case at ICC Over Israel’s Killing of Six Journalists in Gaza Attack
Brussels (Quds News Network)- The Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF) and the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) said they will file a joint complaint to the International Criminal Court (ICC) over Israel’s killing of six Palestinian journalists in a targeted and deliberate attack on Sunday. The Israeli military confirmed the killing of Al Jazeera’s Anas al-Sharif was deliberate, repeating accusations used in the killings of more than 220 journalists since October 2023, HRF said in a statement. Seven people were killed in the attack. Among them: Mohammed Qreiqeh, Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal, and Moamen Aliwa—four Al Jazeera journalists who, like Al-Sharif, had refused to stop documenting the genocide. Mohammed Al-Khaldi, also a journalist who worked for Sahat Media Platform, and Saad Jundiya, a Palestinian civilian who happened to be present in the scene at the time of attack were also killed. For the two groups, this “was not just another tragedy in a long war on the press. This was a clear-cut criminal act—a war crime and part of a broader genocidal campaign—and it demanded a direct, targeted legal response.” HRF’s investigation traces the chain of command from Netanyahu to senior Israeli army figures, including air force and intelligence commanders. PCHR contributed documentation of other Al Jazeera journalists killed in targeted attacks following public smear campaigns. The submission accuses those named of war crimes and genocide, calling for arrest warrants and for all journalist killings in Gaza to be included in the ICC’s Palestine investigation. “The evidence is there. The legal foundation is unshakable. The jurisdiction is established beyond question. What remains is for the International Criminal Court to move past statements of ‘grave concern’ and take the decisive step that justice demands: act,” added HRF, a Belgium-based pro-Palestine group which leads a legal push against Israeli soldiers’ war crimes in Gaza.
