Houthi leaders vow retaliation against US-British attacks in Yemen

Sanaa (Quds News Network) – Houthi leaders in Yemen have reacted strongly to the deadly US-British airstrikes targeting multiple locations in Yemen overnight Thursday-Friday, with several officials issuing strong warnings of retaliation.

Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, a member of the Supreme Political Council of the Houthi movement, condemned the US-British strikes on Yemen as “barbaric terrorism.” He characterized the attacks as “deliberate and unjustified aggression reflecting a brutal mindset,” according to Reuters. Al-Houthi stated that the response would be conveyed through a later statement.

In a separate statement, Mohammed al-Bukhaiti, a member of the Houthi Political Bureau, stated that “America and Britain have deprived themselves of crossing the Red Sea and the Bab el Mandeb Strait.”

He added, “Yemen will respond to these attacks, and there must be revenge. We have painful options against their interests in the region.”

Al-Bukhaiti’s comments followed shortly after another statement from Houthi spokesperson Mohammed Abdulsalam, posted on his X account. Abdulsalam stated, “There is no justification for the US-British aggression on Yemen,” affirming that targeting Israeli ships will continue.

Hours before the airstrikes, Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi had already emphasized that the response to any US attack “will not be limited to the level of the recent operation.”

He stated in a televised statement on Thursday that “any US aggression will not go unanswered. It will not only be at the level of the recent operation with more than 24 drones and several missiles but will be more extensive than that.”

Earlier media reports confirmed that Houthi forces responded with strikes on US and British targets in the Red Sea after the US-British strikes targeted Houthi strongholds in several Yemeni cities, including Saada, the group’s stronghold, the capital Sanaa, and Al Hudaydah.

Ali al-Qahoum, a Houthi official, confirmed that Houthi forces had vigorously responded by attacking US and British warships in the Red Sea after they had shelled Yemeni cities.

Meanwhile, Houthi official Abdullah bin Amer emphasized that “the US-British aggression will not pass without a response, and the confrontation will not stop.”
