Hezbollah leader Hashem Safi Al-Din missing after Israeli airstrike in Beirut’s southern suburbs
Beirut (Quds News Network)- Lebanese security sources have reported that Hezbollah’s Executive Council head, Hashem Safi Al-Din, has been missing since last Friday following a massive Israeli airstrike. The sources told Al Jazeera, the Israeli attack targeted an underground facility in the southern Beirut suburb of Mreijeh, where Safi Al-Din was reportedly located at the time of the strike.
Efforts to locate Safi Al-Din have been severely hindered by continuous Israeli drone attacks, which have been striking rescue teams attempting to reach the area since the initial bombing. Lebanese sources also confirmed that international negotiations are currently underway to secure safe passage for rescue teams to the site of the airstrike.
The airstrike on Beirut’s southern suburbs, which occurred two days ago, has been described as one of the most brutal Israeli attacks on Lebanon in recent years. Several buildings were completely destroyed in the assault, with the scale of devastation surpassing the infamous strike that killed Hezbollah’s former leader, Hassan Nasrallah.
According to The New York Times, three senior Israeli officials confirmed that the airstrike targeted a meeting of top Hezbollah leaders, including Safi Al-Din, who is considered a potential successor to Nasrallah. Israel’s Channel 14 and the Axios news site echoed these claims, confirming that Safi Al-Din was the primary target of the operation.
