Harris claims Israel ‘has right to defend itself,’ says Palestinians also need ‘dignity, security’

Chicago (Quds News Network)- US Vice President Kamala Harris reiterated her predecessor’s steadfast support for Israel while envisioning a future where Palestinians had the “right to dignity, security, freedom and self-determination” during her acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) on Thursday.
“Let me be clear, I will always stand up for Israel’s right to defend itself and I will always ensure Israel has the ability to defend itself,” she said.
Harris added, “At the same time what has happened in Gaza in the past 10 months is devastating. So many innocent lives lost. Desperate, hungry people fleeing for safety, over and over again. The scale of suffering is heartbreaking.”
Harris said she and President Biden are still pushing for a ceasefire deal that sees the Israeli prisoners released, the war in Gaza ends and so “Palestinian people can realize their right to dignity, security, freedom and self determination.”
On Thursday night, Harris stepped onto the stage of Chicago’s United Center arena to accept the Democratic nomination for the presidency, marking the conclusion of the party’s four-day-long political convention.
Harris has faced anger from pro-Palestine activists pushing for a Gaza ceasefire and an arms embargo on Israel.
