Hamas: We Agreed to an Egyptian Proposal to Govern Gaza, Hope Netanyahu Won’t Sabotage It

Doha (Quds News Network)- Head of Hamas movement, Khalil al-Hayya, announced that the movement has accepted an Egyptian proposal to establish a committee to manage the Gaza Strip. He confirmed that discussions had reached an advanced stage and expressed hope that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would not sabotage the agreement.
Al-Hayya also made it clear that Hamas would not allow Gaza to be placed under an entity influenced by Israel. “Anyone who thinks we will hand over Gaza to an unknown body controlled by the occupation is delusional,” he said during his Eid al-Fitr speech.
According to al-Hayya, Hamas has worked with other resistance factions and international mediators to shape Gaza’s post-war administration. The Egyptian initiative involves forming a committee of independent professionals to govern the Strip. “This body will take full responsibility for Gaza in all sectors,” he explained.
Hamas has already submitted a list of candidates to Egypt. Al-Hayya expressed hope that the process would move forward quickly and gain regional support.
Al-Hayya made it clear that Hamas and the Palestinian resistance factions would not disarm under any circumstances. “The weapons of the resistance are sacred. They are the guarantee of our people’s protection and will remain in our hands,” he affirmed. He dismissed any suggestion that Hamas would surrender its military capabilities as part of the agreement.
He added that any future political arrangement must respect the right of Palestinians to resist the occupation. “We will not allow anyone to strip us of our right to defend our land and our people,” he stated.
Al-Hayya firmly rejected any notion that the movement would abandon its responsibilities or allow Israel to control Gaza’s future. “Anyone who thinks we will hand over our people to an unknown fate dictated by the occupation is delusional,” he declared. He emphasized that Hamas would never accept humiliation or surrender, vowing that forced displacement and exile were not options. Al-Hayya also reaffirmed that the resistance’s weapons were a “red line,” tied directly to the ongoing Israeli occupation. “As long as the occupation exists, these weapons will remain in the hands of our people and our future Palestinian state to protect its rights and resources,” he stated.
Al-Hayya condemned the world’s silence in the face of “a brutal war of extermination,” forced displacement, and identity erasure.
Al-Hayya warned that Israel had repeatedly delayed ceasefire talks to prolong the genocide. He stated that Netanyahu has blocked a previous agreement reached on January 19. “Israel refused to withdraw from Salah al-Din Road and resumed attacks with greater brutality,” he stated.
Despite this, Hamas remains committed to the ceasefire deal and urges international mediators to ensure Israel honors its commitments. “We are not asking for anything new, only the implementation of what was signed,” al-Hayya emphasized.
