Hamas says Biden’s statements misleading, reaffirms commitment to ceasefire

Gaza (Quds News Network)- Hamas has strongly condemned recent statements by US President Joe Biden, stating that he is misleading the international community and showing blatant bias towards the occupation state of Israel. Biden claimed that Hamas was “backing away” from a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, even though the movement had repeatedly expressed its willingness to accept a ceasefire based on Biden’s proposal.

“It’s still in play, but you can’t predict,” Biden said as he was preparing to leave Chicago after delivering a keynote address to the Democratic National Convention. “Israel says they can work it out… Hamas is now backing away”, he claimed.

In a sharply worded response, Hamas stated that Biden’s comments, along with those of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, are part of a broader attempt to distort the truth and provide cover for Israel’s ongoing aggression against Palestinian civilians in Gaza. “These statements are nothing but a continuation of the US’s full support for the Israeli occupation and its war of extermination against our people,” Hamas said in its statement.

Hamas further criticized the US administration for a renewed green light to the Israeli government, allowing it to commit further atrocities against unarmed civilians in Gaza. The movement emphasized that the proposals recently presented to Hamas represent a significant deviation from the agreements reached in early July, which were based on President Biden’s own announcement in May and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2735 in June.

Hamas also highlighted the positive and responsible approach it has taken in previous negotiations, attributing the failure to reach a ceasefire agreement to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s continuous introduction of new conditions and demands. The movement reaffirmed its commitment to the agreements reached on July 2 and called on the international mediators, particularly Qatar and Egypt, to hold Israel accountable and enforce the agreed-upon terms.

Hamas called on the US administration to abandon its “blind bias” towards Israeli war criminals and to take serious steps to halt the ongoing military campaign against Gaza. “It is time for the US to lift its political and military cover from this genocidal war and work towards ending the suffering of our people,” the statement read.
